The Ashley's Stopper Knot (aka: Oysterman's Stopper) is credited to Clifford W. Ashley who who's epic masterpiece "The Ashley Book of Knots" is basically the bible of knot tying. He developed this knot sometime around 1910.
I use it for a stopper knot in my climbing ropes. Most fatal climbing accidents have occured from people rappelling off the end of their ropes - a fatal mistake that can be easily prevented with a simple knot.
This video will show a live action demonstration of how to tie the knot as well as a step-by-step with picture tutorial.
