A young Ben Hogan early in his career demonstrating his slashing golf swing. On good authority this is the driving range at Augusta National Golf Club, site of The Masters. Hogan made many improvements in his swing by trial and error and some tips from other professionals throughout the 30's and early 40's. This was the swing that caused that occasional duck hook that he dreaded and eliminated later after WWII. He then became the 'King of Golf'.

  • It was the swing he developed to outdrive the other tour pros to win extra money. It did not serve him well in winning championships. Not sure he actually won any tournaments with this swing. Would have to find out when the Bromo Seltzer flip book was made. He figured out a hook would not do well on tour, the power fade he developed later sure worked out.

  • Looks like Augusta National driving range. How do we know what year ? Did he play in the Masters in the 30's ? Carl Welty

I can't tell you what location. I guess it could be Augusta. Hogan did play in the 39 and 39 Masters so its possible that would be the location. Back in the 30's he used to wear a buttoned up button down shirt with long sleeves. I guess it was quite an achievement for photography to capture this live action on film back then. It must have been a darn good camera!

  • He damn near wrapped the club arous his back on the backswing

  • Hold the lag as long as possible then flip the blade shut as fast as possible. "FORE LEFT"!!!

He had to change that and thanks Hogan he did :)

  • That swing has low, running duck hook written all over it. haha not to often one gets to criticize hogan's golf swing.

  • everyone notices the longer backswing....but notice the release!

  • Gosh - his swing didn't change much over the years

  • Gosh eighty year ago and so far past parallel!!!

  • I am sure it's Augusta National. If Ben Hogan played in the Masters in 1938 & 1939 this most likely was the range.
