Syracuse university 1972. Quality isn't great but it's quite rare and definitely worth seeing.

BTW. this concert is the only one in existence (as far as I'm aware) in which John is still using the guitar sound of 'the inner mounting flame' Album.

  • This was 1974 (I was there). Look at Billy Cobham's tee shirt. It's an SU shirt from '74.

  • If you were there I've no idea what you were on but it's scrambled your brain and some. The info I have is may 12 1972. But that aside, obviously the track list is from 'the inner mounting flame' 1971. Birds of fire was recorded1973 (nothing here) and anyway M.O.1 split and M.O.2 formed in 1974 and released apocalypse. That's not guesswork but facts and you sir have a very dodgy memory.

  • Awesome, can't you travel back in time and fix the audio and make this HD or something? I only ask because you *are* bazonics after all... maybe add color as well. and make me a sandwich. whenever you get a chance. thanks so much for posting these amazing clips.

  • I'm sure the original tapes exist somewhere; maybe they'll surface one day. Now the sandwich I can do: white or rye?

  • Billy Cobham is damn good muthafucka!

  • This is a very amazing example of how JM conceives of playing a "ballad" (first section of each solist's solo). Speed produces a relaxing effect by creating a wave of sound.

  • @Rexicano you jealous, bro?

  • @TheGeoffreyF Sorry, can't be. This lineup completely disbanded late in 1973 directly after trying to record their third album in London.

  • I was there.

  • @TheGeoffreyF thanx for this epic vid!

  • The coolest music around and I love the laid back vibe then, how you could see some of the best music of all time for nothing or next to nothing at your local Univ..Now you gotta pay corporate leeches $100 to watch half the crowd holding up cell phones.

This line-up,MO1 are incredible! John is coming here to Austin in Nov.,I want to go see him,tix are like $100 though. What's happened to the music biz man?Everybody's got their hand in the pie.Well,I've seen him 4x in diff.stages but nvr.MO1 bum'r

  • @dorian411

And you like to write to clueless people?

    Oh, so sad.

  • @Rexicano I must say you are completely clueless...

  • What the hell is Elton John doing there?

And who put ants in his pants?

Jeez, what was McLaughlin trying to do; get in to the Guinness record as most pointless notes played on guitar?

Double neck guitar but still a crap tone on the instrument.

Self indulgence mixed with Indian spirituality...?

  • the endless hours of meditational instrument practice to achieve this level is beyond my comprehension

  • Pure SPACE....@^@

    Awesome show..!
