  • Hello, just wanted to ask if that is the jumbo flyerfor the Kiwi? I have a Kiwi with the standard flyer and was curious.

  • @jbrose40 It is, indeed, the jumbo flyer! And I adore it!

  • Hi.

I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I am having a MAJOR issue with my new wheel. I have a traditional ashford and I have the treddling down but when I add fleece. OMG what a mess.

    Thank you

  • @officermom50 I would love to help...but I don't know, from your description what's going on. In other words, there are lots of ways to mess it up :)

But don't worry! It takes loooots of practice!

You can search for videos that show other aspects of spinning (like, is your fleece just a raw fleece? Or is roving or a batt? That changes how you'll handle it)

But just keep practicing, a little every day and you'll figure it out soon!

  • I have a weird question: How do you ply on the kiwi? Is there a special thing that you need to buy or do?

    Judy Williams

  • OH, and the worst injury I've had on the wheel was when I hooked my thumb on the orifice hook while it was just hanging. I don't really understand how I did it, but it took a deep triangle chunk of skin out of my thumb. I now hook the hook to the cord. I'm normally a klutz when doing anything like walking or dancing, and am good with my hands.

  • I've had my Kiwi for about a month and love it! I kept messing up on the flyer hooks, forgetting to move them, or having them jab my hand when I went to move them, so I got the Jumbo Sliding Hood Flyer and what a difference! I had been using a spindle for about 2 1/2 years, was getting even plies at 18 wpi using chain-plying. I'm working about that gauge on my Kiwi, now, too. Got a free 8 oz of both natural and natural gray with the wheel; going to look like "Ragg" wool when I'm done!

  • Thanks so much - this was the simplest yet most clear & concise video I've found so far showing how spinning works.

  • Wonderful spinning wheel. Simple and easy to understand. Thanks for sharing your video.

  • Thanks for posting! I'm looking to build a wheel, but couldn't figure out how the flyer works. This video was the first one that shows the flyer in action in a way that it can be seen!

    Thanks again!
