This is a stray male intact dog that appears to be a pitbull that I found loitering behind my house after returning from a walk with my dog. It seems to have bumps on its skin like it's an older dog; however it moves and has the attitude a middle age or younger dog. It seems to want to play and flirt with my German Shepherd. I don't have a big enough space to keep the dog nor do I have the financial means to keep another dog, nor do I have the physical ability to take care of two dogs long term.
I'm looking for the owner of this dog or a foster for it or and adoption or rescue agency. I'm likely to turn this dog over to the SPCA if I can't find the owner or a rescue agency willing to take it. I think the local rescue shelter had a policy of euthanizing pit bulls because they have such a bad reputation.
This pitbull seems to be gentle and friendly and submissive. It seems to have had little or no obedience training. The dog seems fearful of authorities in uniform; so it probably has been a stray that has ran from authorities.
At first I thought he might not have any obedience training, however I think he may have been ignoring me at first because he didn't trust or respect me. Though I haven't tried him yet today with formal commands, he seems to have a fairly intuitive nature and seems to respond to body posture. He doesn't seem to pull too much on the leash when I take him for a walk. He seemed to wait to go the bathroom until I took him for a walk, so there is a possibility he might even be potty trained. He seemed to know what a rug is, he was lying down on the hardwood deck and I threw down a throw rug and he almost immediately lied down on it. When I sit down and slap my lap, he comes to me. At one time he may have been an inside dog; as I let him a few feet in my house and when I turned around to come back out he laid down as a to say he wanted to stay inside and make it his home.
He is not aggressive with my dog, but she is a friendly female. It might be a different story if it meets another dog or a male dog. My dog has been playing with him, and so far I haven't seen any signs of aggression.
