Written by a good Irishman...He has missed the timbre of this entirely, like most literature professors do. It was written as a pub song, really. My great-grandfather, grandfather, and friends used to sing this poem with musical accompaniment.

@giddle12 If "He" is me, I agree with you. You should check out Kent Risley's version: Golfdude3213 on YouTube. Much more authentic than mine. A pub song. Wow. I would love to have been in the pub with your great grandfather, grandfather and his friends.
