This is SOME modeling work! The 7-spot shown here looks typical of a 1914 Class B Shay, albeit with the first-gen wood cab (Mill Valley & Mt. Tamalpais Scenic Ry. #8 had a West Coast steel cab and was otherwise equipped as depicted your model.).

@MonsterRailroad I meant to say insurance on that previous message, my bad.

@MonsterRailroad You know you really pissed me off when I was asking you about the tax incident. I wasn't trying to point a finger at you, I was asking if you KNEW about it....ya know, trying to help you by making you aware of the situation, because I wasn't sure if you did. I still watch your vids and all, but really think it was lame blocking me for asking about the situation, then saying I'm "Not a model railroader", also lame. Look up what I said to you on Google, it's public info apparently

Model looks great, but banjo music in the background sucks.

@gearjammers Are you using them on DCC without any modifications? Like without isolating the motor from the frame? Or did you have to do that? I'm curious because I know the later runs are DCC ready/plug and play, but they never bothered to isolate the motor, and that usually spells death for a decoder.

@MonsterRailroad I agree there bro, the music blows. The way the diesels are running nowadays really makes me want to switch to some GP9's or some SW1200's from Proto or Kato respectively. I still wouldn't trade my Shays or Heislers for anything however.

@whoohaaXL Shays are not my idea of a cool engine. An SD70M or SD70ACe is a HOT one. But the music is the worse and killed the video. That old Honky tonk is the worse to me. Just my opinion I am sure many old white guys love that shit, just not me. LOL

@MonsterRailroad How could you not like shays man? I like your vids and all but don't approve of this comment! lol.
Question; I have a RTR model as well and it runs like a dream right out of the box. also have a kit-built shay that was built by someone else and I rebuilt it. I have the NWSL parts on order for the kit built, but I dont think it's worth 32$ to get the RTR run marginally better than it already does. How did your RTR run right out of the box after breaking it in?

Our RTR Shay ran seemed to run great on DC. After switching to DCC some low speed issues appeared. After the NWSL parts were installed the low speed control and just how smooth it runs is impressive. It is difficult to tell if it is moving if not for the side drive shaft spinning. And this is dead head, pulling a cut of cars, up, down, it just goes. We have another RTR shay that will be getting the same treatment when I have some extra time.

Very nice! Love the scenery too! I am starting a layout in HO using a foam system. I have a Spectrum 3-truck shay but I like that one too. Is the re-gear hard to install?

Thanks. Its fairly straight forward if you are not drinking too much bourbon. The driveshaft parts looked fuzzy through the alcohol haze, but in the morning everything fit well. After the upgrades, it runs better than the Bachmann. We have been working on that scenery and should have another video soon.

@gearjammers This comment was THREE YEARS AGO! Lol. We need a layout update, or at least a new video of this beautiful Shay. I just bought a 3 truck R-T-R and ordered a Bullgear kit for the same treatment as my 2 truck R-T-R. I don't use the axle gears on my 2 truck, just the 3. PLEASE do a new video in COLOR if possible of your Shays in action. PLEASE!

@whoohaaXL Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. I do have a new shay vid on my page or search "The Logging Turn Movie". Thanks.
