The last Viking King of Norway, Harald Hardrada is presented in this video. Many recognize him from the tales of Wiliam the Conquerors campaign against the Saxons in 1066, but behind the Norwegian king who fell at Stamford Bridge, is an epic tale of true adventures, bloody battles and great voyages. 15 year old warrior at the Battle of Stiklestad, 18 year old Novgorodan soldier, 21 year old Varangian Guard and 30 year old King of Norway. The untold story of King Harald Hardrada - the Last Viking.

  • Wow i like this video thanks for uploading it. The best refference is in 3:41 i didnt knew that the Varangians called the empire as Grekerriket. By the way Emperor Basil was one of the greatest emperors, he had Varangian blood from his great grandma Eudokia Ingerina and Greek spartan blood by his mother Theophano. Emperor Basil II created the Varangian guard and he had friendly relations with the Rus. Also Harald Hardrada is known mostly in Byzantine history from the sicilian and balkan campaign

  • @Zorro11144 How interesting. You always respond to my videos with some good funfacts. Thank you. Just wait until the next episode where I focuse on his campaigns for the Byzantines. I also plan to create a video where I show the Medieval relations between the Norwegians and the Greeks (Byzantines).

  • im norwegian so i know this shit

you fail to mention that the struggle between olav and the pagans really were a rebellion against a tyrant. olav was very fond of executing people and raising taxes so this war had very little to do with faith

    anyways nice video

  • Nice video and the Varangian Rus from now a days Sweden was the first vikings who served in Varangian guard.

    Cheers from Sweden

  • Nice video! But i thought the Varangian guard were founded after the Viking Rus - Byzantium wars in the 9th century? When the peace treaties were signed only a few Rus merchants were allowed inside Constantinopel at the same time except for those that joined the Varangian guard.

  • Is the most well made, and interesting video i ever seen on youtube!

About time someone made vids like this from the Sagas.

Sigurd Jordsalafar har også et stor video potensiale ;)

  • @Strategos300 Inger was a Varangian who had a daughter called Eudokia Ingerina, she became empress and her son was the emperor Leo the wise. You can see on Byzantine dipictions that Leo the wise had a blond beard. Also Emperor Basil II had Norse blood from his great grandma Eudokia Ingerina and Greek spartan blood from his mother Theophano.

  • @Strategos300 A video of Greek and Norwegian medieval relations? That sparked my curiocity, i am looking forward to see it. I ve read once that the Byzantines had sent once an embacy to the north i think somewhere in Germany and they saw there for the first time the Rus vikings. Yeah they had close and good relation with the vikings (With the exeption of the Normans) . Also read about the campaign of George Maniakes, Harald Hardrada participated in that campaign.

  • I like the clip. I didn't know much about Harold Hadrada's background before 1066.
