I posted something earlier but it didn't post for some reason. Anyways, this was part of a 3 or more part series with Zeke the flavor freak. The 80s song "I Want Candy" seems to have been based off of this tune.

"Zeke" rings a bell, thanks for the info. The "I Want Candy" popular in the 80's was a cover by Bow Wow Wow, the orignal was by The Strangeloves, released in 1965. I agree it sounds similar though. Sorry about not having your comments approved earlier, sometimes I go to approve comments and for whatever reason they don't appear so there's nothing I can do.

I have a tape with several of these commercials(the lollipops and just the Life Savers themselves). Interestingly, though, the version I have of this one has the last two lines reversed.

Thanks Lectronimo, it's one of my favs! I'm kind of bummed about how the vid quality turned out, but it's the best I've been able to find after having a far worse copy for years. Just like you I seem to remember vaguely, but I also would have been very young. Also I'm not certain it's 1973.

In about 1980, Cadbury Easter Creme Eggs were advertised in Canada with a commercial set in a roller disco, using a jingle that sounds suspiciously like this one.

I can BARELY remember Life Savers gum. It wasn't that bad based on my recollection. Wonder why they quit making it?

It's not you...The song "Willie & the Hand Jive" was done in what was called the Bo Didley beat. The commercial borrowed its melody from Bo Diddley's song "Bo Diddley" -- check it out on YouTube

I thought this was from the 60s, but I guess 72 isn't too far off. It seems that the melody of this song was used over a decade later in the song "I Want Candy".
