Imagery for this video is sourced from photos/scans (jacket/cover, labels etc) of my original UK vinyl pressing of the Mournblade EP - "Time's Running Out" (1985) Flicknife - SHARP 030.
Mournblade are "The Future Of Heavy Metal", well so said respected Kerrang! scribe Derek Oliver back in the mid eighties.
"Mournblade" were named after the brother sword to "Stormbringer"...born out of Michael Moorcock's 1965 novel of the same, "Stormbringer".
They were British NWOBHM band who made one EP (parts of which are featured within my video), and one album during the 1980s: Time's Running Out (EP 1985) and Live Fast Die Young (LP 1988). Several of their songs feature references to Michael Moorcock's work. Influenced by the band Hawkwind, who have had a long association with Michael Moorcock, released an entire album about the story of Elric and Stormbringer, The Chronicle of the Black Sword. They have also released both a single and double live album expanding upon this work, Live Chronicles. The double live album package includes an Elric short story. The album itself contains various narrations and poems read by Moorcock. One. listen to Mournblade, and the Hawkwind influences are quite evident
A bit of background on the whole Moorcock "Stormbringer/Mournblade" thing...
Stormbringer is the name of the infamous black sword featured in a number of fantasy stories by the author Michael Moorcock. Created by the forces of Chaos, it is described as a huge, black sword covered with strange runes carved deep into its blade. It is wielded by the doomed albino emperor Elric of Melniboné. Stormbringer has a "brother" sword named Mournblade, which was at one time wielded by Elric's cousin and enemy Yyrkoon. It is identical to Stormbringer in most regards. Later stories reveal that there are thousands of identical demons, all taking the form of swords. Three such sibling blades appear in The Revenge of the Rose and many more "brother blades" are seen in the novel Stormbringer, but only Mournblade and Stormbringer are named.
Formed in '83 by vocalist Drunken Mullet and guitarist Rich Jones, the basic premise of Mournblade's music is punked up NWOBHM, which is somewhat bizarrely boosted by huge keyboards that add an air of Hawkwind majesty.

Glad you enjoyed! Yeah...this stuff is pretty cool. Haven't played it in quite a few years (20?)...pulled it out the other day for a spin and found it more interesting than I had back in the 80's when it was initially released. This prompted me to make a video :)
Happy Birthday to your son, and Happy Thanksgiving!
