The Romans saw the Eastern people the ruled as barbarric and primitive. I think it was the religion and atmosphere of Syria that made him a pervert plus the Romans were decadent in sexual acts too. I'm not saying Rome judged him too harshly for being born in the East, only that it's the surroundings a person's raised in that rubs off on them and influences them. His outlandish sexual behavior was a result of perversion and mixed religions and cultures which in the end determined his fate.

So do you think Syria made him a pervert or what? Lol! Maybe you are saying that they judged him too harshly cause he was raised in Syria? Well, I don't buy that ; I honestly believe that his conduct was simply beyond over the top and he was whorish with the guards and flirty with the guards that it sealed his fate. I guess you are right that Calligula was much worse. Bottom line is, it's a combination of his extreme perversion and religious beliefs that did it. Even the way he was murdered

Personally I find Caligula much worse since he savagely tortured and killed so many people. I will agree I didn't like Elagabalus screwing with the Imperial religious traditions and whoring himself for the most part and assassinating Emperors was always violent. As I said most of his ourageous acts were likely made up by later emperor an political rivals. As Antonia in 'I,Cladius' said, "Syria's no place to raise a Roman child" and Elagabalus is an example of that grave folley.

I completely disagree; we was certainly worse than Caligula. His very short reign is indicative and it almost seems to me some of the stories about him are too silly to me made up. Despite, how the movies make things look assassinating Emperors was not done lightly.

We may never know if everything that was written about him is true as the Romans were infamous for using spin and blackmail campaigns against each other. I agree most of the thins he did were decadent and outrageous. He did let women sit in on Senate meetings, which I thought was cool. He was a young man raised in the east. Not as bad as Nero/Caligula, he was just-himself, LGBT or not.

If what was written about holds true, then the LGBT community should stay clear of associating with him. He sounds simply insane not a normal LGBT person.

His mother and grandmother, they were actual rulers behind him and when he stubbornly started to make his own immature decisions he was soon to be killed. With his mother. Finita la comedia...;)
