To be tax exempt it is not simply a matter of being a religion, but you must be a CHARITABLE organization, the government does not give one bloody fuck if you are a religion, they care about your finances and if you are doing something, ANYTHING charitable and how you conduct BUSINESS. Being a religion is not good enough.

They are not completely tax exempt, tax code is not quite that cut and dry. While the do have status as a religion under US tax code, they may still be paying some small amount of tax. Furthermore, they have varying statuses in other countries, many of which, not religious.

Do you remember the Jonestown incident? Do you remember the Solar Temple incident? Do you remember the Heaven's Gate incident? Those people did not have some weird personality or biological issue that made them prone or vulnerable to cults—they were as normal as everyone else. That's the power of cults. Scientology can get its members to do anything, and people are easily sucked in and easily trapped.
And no, Islam, along with EVERY religion, should NOT be tax exempt.

I did read a book by L. Ron Hubbard. It was science fiction. Scientology is a bunch of people taking science fiction way too seriously.
