Mr. Gardner should've told the salesman, "You'd better give me what I want for my trade because you DON'T want me to get cree-dazy with the kung-fu!!

People should not pay to hear how to buy a car.

Who had to pay to hear how to buy a car? No one here did.

False information. Just go through financing first and figure out what you can afford and will have before trying to pick out a car.

I wouldn't call it "false information". Remember that the finance people work for the dealer and are given incentives for add-on's, warranties, higher interest, etc. Smart people shouldn't count on a car dealer to decide on what they can afford.
I would think that most people would know exactly what their income is; what their expenses are; thus knowing what they can afford after all the bills are paid. It's called "budget planning". The dealer does not have your best interest in mind.
