When I went to Vadoo, in 06, there was 3 of these little fellas, abbout 3ft long, that patrolled up and down the beach on one side of the island.
Mind you, on the first nite there, we did get to see a couple of sharks around 8ft in length. Didnt need telling twice about the no swimming at night rule!

I was on the Maledives, too. It was amazing and i swim with those sharks ;D Very exciting! I was a little bit scary because i come from germany and never seen sharks before!
