It's seven string not six string RSVPBlogger. Instruments change and evolve constantly, its impossible to have something not similar to another, so all those people saying instruments that are in anyway similar to it been patented, IT HASN'T.

@RSVPBlogger - I think his banjar is different in having seven strings - the guitar's six, plus the extra high string with the tuning peg halfway down the neck, banjo-style. I have a six-string banjar, but this does seem like a legitimately different thing. Agreed that 'banjar' might already mean something different to some people, though. I enjoyed Mr Nix's playing, though!

An update - according to Wikipedia these instruments have been in common usage for nearly a century, reaching their peak of popularity in the 1920's. Deering still manufacture them.

A neighbour of mine had a six string banjo/guitar when I was a child in the 70's. These are NOTHING new and it's ridiculous to claim he "invented" it.

I agree, This man is a thief. Next he will invent something called the "Steam Train"

This is a disgrace. The Banjar was invented by The Banjar people in Africa and has been around for hundreds of years, and the Banjo comes from these instruments invented by African slaves brought to America.
