Franz Völker (1899 - 1965). One of the most beautiful tenor voices in history. You can clearly hear the strong falsetto coordination into his sound, particularly on the pianissimi, and the tremendous chest voice development which he covers so brilliantly on the top notes.
Sensational. TY Mr C for posting

He would make a great Radames. Unlike most Italian verdian tenors it(radames) would takes pinch of Heldenish timbre like Volker.

@GermanOperaSinger Did Caruso ever record any of him singing Die Zauberfloete arias?

Tamino ottimo, tenore lirico e spinto, non helden, infatti in Siegfried è un disastro, mentre bene in Lohengrin

fabulous! a true heroic tamino. an example for any full spinto tenor who dares attempt this treacherous piece.

This is incredible, but is this a different version, b/c some of the words are different, nevertheless its still phrased and sung very beautifully!!

He could scale down his spinto voice and sing with such beauty and lyricism. Like Caruso, who would sing the Zauberflote arias to warm up his voice.
By keeping active in the lyric repertoire even as he sang more Wagner, Volker kept himself from developing stupid and sloppy mannerisms that many Wagner tenors had. He was the greatest 'baby Heldentenor' ever.
