If you live in ridgecrest you 30min's to 1 hour in every direction somthing cool, Lakes, hotsprings,beutiful forests, camping, travle 2 more hours and mont whitney, and lots more hotspings, and awsome stuff.

thanks for the pic's of ridgecrest, I was born there, lived there for 19 years, though it's not the best economy there, it does have it's own awsomeness, like , The smell off rain there, no were else will it smell better. The most awsome sunrises & sunsets all the colors of the rainbow are in those clouds.

I'm here on military orders and I have to tell you that this is the worst place I've ever been to. The weather is horrible. Dry, hot, windy in summer, freezing, dry, and more freezing in winter. Possibly the most disgusting place on the planet.

Sierra's was down the street from Three Sisters. It used to be that you could grill your own steaks! :) Loved that place!
I think Sierra's is still there.
I've heard crap for years about all these amazing jobs on base.
I laughed my butt off when house prices soared like they did!
It is my opinion that one can never trust a job on the base, or any job in Ridgecrest for that matter. Everyone is subject to lay-offs.
Ridgecrest real estate is still over priced!

Now I know which place (Sierra's) you're talking about! For about 2 years now it's been Torres Steak House. They totally remodeled the place. I've eaten there a couple of times. You can't cook your own steak, but the food is good.
The restaurant on Hwy 14 I was thinking about is "The Homestead." It's no longer in business.
They built a beautiful new building for the Rite-Aid pharmacy on the corner of China Lake Blvd & Ridgecrest Blvd. Now there are reports Rite-Aid is going bankrupt!

For me, the happiest two years of my life were spent living in Ridgecrest/Inyokern.
I wish I could return, but you can never go home again, I'm afraid.
A side note: My best friend, April, lived out there in Inyokern.
She passed away a few years ago. She was murdered in Georgia. We never found out who did it.
April, I'll always look back fondly on our steak dinners at Sierra's, and coffee at Burger King on the Blvd.

So sorry to hear about your close friend.
I'm also sorry to report things aren't very good here in Ridgecrest at the moment. Businesses are closing down left & right like the 99¢ Store on Balsam Street, Mervyn's and Diamond Motors. Ridgecrest is almost like a 'ghost town' with it's glut of empty buildings. Two weeks ago a suspicious fire burned down Sunrise Liquor & Bernardino's Restaurant. So many people are outta work. I really don't think you'd want to return to Ridgecrest today.

OMG, I didn't know about Mervins and Diamond motors. Geez, Diamond motors had been there forever, I even bought a Jeep from them. :(
Bernardino's restaurant was in Inyokern, right? That bured and so did Sunrise? Arson!
Hey, remember Three Sisters out in Inyokern!??? I loved that place. One of the sisters played the organ and yodeled!
I thought there were supposed to be more jobs on base?

All the new job's on base didn't match the hype it's impact was supposed to have on this community. If it did, why would we have so many businesses closing down and all the idle housing projects that have came to a complete halt? Sad.
Bernardinos had 2 locations, the one in Ridgecrest next door to Sunrise Liquor on Downs Street and the other in Inyokern which used to be 3 Sisters. Isn't Sierra's that restaurant on Highway 14 close to the Indian Wells Brewery? If it is, it's out of business.
