heros of the lance sucks, and ff8 was good up until i foudn out where all the heors came from... the exact same place...

Couple things
Don't confuse bad hit box with missing your "to hit roll".
You do not need Goldmoon to beat the game, just her staff and one of 5 characters that can carry her staff
Raistlin is not the most powerful mage at this point. However, he is a very strong character if you know how to use him. It's like DnD, glass cannon mage.
Like you said, without the manual the game sucks. After reading it the combat is easy.
Bad game, awesome music though.
(Why is Goldmoon first? Tanis was leader.)
