Dan Wheldon Wins the 2011 Indianapolis 500

seannydindy.blogspot.com JR Hildebrand appears to have the race in hand, when, while lapping the slower Charlie Kimball, he slams in to the turn 4 wall. Dan Wheldon, running 2nd, passed the crashed #4 car to take his 2nd Indy 500 victory. Probably the craziest finish in the 100 year history of the event.

Just 5 months later, Wheldon was tragically killed in a 15 car wreck on the 12th lap of the IndyCar World Championships in Las Vegas. He was 33.

You guys overreacted just as bad as I did. I was unable to watch this race due to a road trip I was on, but I thought for sure that a Ganassi or Penske car would win. I LOVED it that one of my guys won. When I found out all I could do is repeatedly ask in a squeaking voice "REALLY!?"

... To be honest though, with everything that has happened since, maybe that race was just destiny...

Watching that live on TV was already priceless. Watching that live THERE on the grandstands was like what? 10x priceless?
