Theodore Robert "Ted" Bundy (born Theodore Robert Cowell; November 24, 1946 -- January 24, 1989) was an American serial killer, rapist, kidnapper, and necrophile who assaulted and murdered numerous young women during the 1970s, and possibly earlier. After more than a decade of denials, he confessed shortly before his execution to 30 homicides committed in seven states between 1974 and 1978; the true total remains unknown, and could be much higher.

Bundy was handsome and charismatic, traits he exploited in winning the confidence of his young, attractive female victims. He typically approached them in public places and feigned injury or disability, or impersonated an authority figure, before overpowering and assaulting them at a more secluded location. He sometimes revisited his secondary crime scenes for hours at a time, grooming and performing sexual acts with the decomposing corpses until putrefaction and destruction by wild animals made further interaction impossible. He decapitated at least twelve victims and kept some of the severed heads in his apartment for a period of time as mementos. On a few occasions he simply broke into dwellings in the dead of night and bludgeoned victims as they slept.

Initially charged in Utah in 1975 and convicted of aggravated kidnapping and attempted criminal assault, Bundy became linked to a progressively longer list of unsolved homicides in multiple states. Facing murder charges in Colorado, he engineered two dramatic escapes and committed multiple additional assaults, resulting in at least three murders, before his ultimate recapture in Florida in 1978. He received three death sentences in two separate trials for the three known Florida homicides.

Ted Bundy died in the electric chair at Raiford Prison in Starke, Florida, in January 1989. Biographer Ann Rule described him as "...a sadistic sociopath who took pleasure from another human's pain and the control he had over his victims, to the point of death, and even after." He once called himself "...the most cold-hearted son of a bitch you'll ever meet." Attorney Polly Nelson, a member of his last defense team, agreed. "Ted," she wrote, "was the very definition of heartless evil."

  • I read this guy was on his way towards one day possibly being Washington state governor, who knows if he lead a different life, he may of even got to DC as a senator or possibly higher. It's just like John Wayne Gacy. They go to show that even criminals are highly educated and they really did test some of those against capital punishment. I hope Bundy's victims are resting in peace.

  • @CARTER4526 Very well put, I agree that some criminals are highly educated and Bundy was arguably one of the most intellectual serial killers. Not only was he smart, but his charisma led people to only know him as the successful, up-and-coming political figure that he appeared to be. But unfortunately he was also a sadistic killer that thrived on taking the lives of others. Please subscribe if you have not already done so and make sure to check out the other documentaries I have uploaded!

  • @MysteryManUSA9 You know when I say that to many people about some criminals are well educated, it surprises them. Many people have the wrong stereotypical image of the serail killer just like other criminals. Prehaps if more people knew that, especially the authorities, who knows, all the Bundy's, Gacey's and Ridgeways etc might of been caught earlier. I definately will subscribe, keep the documentaries coming.

  • @CARTER4526 Yes, let's just hope that the authorities have learned from their past mistakes and put as much of a stop to serial killers as much as they can. Thank you very much for subscribing, the documentaries will keep on coming!

  • @loraliesa Yes witnesses can be wrong but bite mark evidence has been accepted by the courts! The only thing that would prove Ted's innocence is DNA testing which wasn't available at the time of his trial. You also state that he only confessed in desperation for time, why then did he not want prison officials to over-hear his confessions reguarding other crimes to a jounalist? Also Ted didn't confess to his crimes in Florida because his excution was still pending up until to the appointed date.

  • @spider62able @spider62able Witnesses are notoriously inaccurate as far as what they think they have seen. Criminal Justice 101 classes teach this and judges know this.. .but not the general public. Bite Marks in flesh as far as iding the biter is nothing more that junk science flesh moves. Bodily fluids indicated that the assailant was a nonsecretor and so the real killer was not charged at Chi Omega. Google Enigma of Ted Bundy too see article on this in People

  • @loralieisa shut up, he killed those girls at the chi omega.

  • @loralieisa Bite mark evidence was used in the Lisa Levy case at The Chi Omega House to convict Ted Bundy. There was also a student witness who I.D.ed Ted as being seen at the sorority house that night. Also Ted never confessed to the Chi Omega and his other convictions as it was believed that it would jeopardize his appealls from death-row.

  • Evidence at the Chi Omega site indicated that the perpetrator was a non secretor meaning that blood type could not be determined from bodily secretions TB was a secretor and should have been ruled out and a case reopened to find the real killer It will be interesting to see what if any cold cases are solved with the TB blood added to the FBI data base. TB may be the poster Guy for wrongful convictions and false confessions. He only confessed days before his execution in desperation for time.
