The Eastern seaboard tropical storm of Nov 2009 brought back memories of our surviving a similar storm in Rodanthe, NC (Outer Banks) in Nov 2008 while being flooded in at our beach house.

  • Check out information on the Island Free Press website.... guess Youtube didn't want me to post a link here... the highway at the north end of Rodanthe is badly damaged.... only 4WD vehicles can head north right now... via a one-land temporary sand roadway

  • wow..that's alot worse than when we were there. The S curve was flooded for a day or two, but it didn't get washed out. Are you from the area? Was just wondering if the house we stayed in (Surfside Breeze, on the oceanfront at the end of Surfside Dr) was damaged or not.

  • Thnx for sharing...thought there would be more Rodathe You Tubers for this storm...sure not getting any news from there....know it is worse today as far as overwash....

  • Bout the only time Rodanthe makes the news during a Northeasterner is when one of the homes are overcome by the storm surge. Thanks for the post!

  • We rented Sahara in April 2009, down the beach from the Serendipity house. When we looked at the rental pictures on the web, there were dunes and beach in front of Sahara and a staircase going down from the second floor to the beach. When we got there..no dunes- no staircase-the tide was coming up to the supports. We did wonder what happened..looks like this 2008storm is what happened! While we love to stay on the ocean, building on the seashore has got to stop! All of these houses are doomed!

  • @justbs549 It's actually not too bad in the villages... Surfside Drive wasn't as bad as we anticipated... guess it just hammered that road at the S-curve because the "dune" had been washed out the prior week, as well, during a smaller nor'easter.... it's going to be an interesting winter... we're sure off to a good start.... but... the D.O.T. crews have a 1-lane gravel roadway in place now for all traffic... so we're not stuck, anymore... always nice to get the grocery trucks back in the area!
