My father and I travelled to Saipan and Tinian Island in March 2010 to visit the WWII historic sites. This is Part I of our Tinian trip as we travel up to the very historic North Field which in 1945 was the largest and busiest airport in the world. It's best known for the launching of the atomic bombs that hit Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945.

  • The last time i was there was a long time ago, 16 years ago, I miss Tinian, tnx for sharing this video,

  • Thx for posting this trip through history. As a pilot and WW2 buff I have used Google maps to see North field and the bomb pits but your video allowed me to see a ground level view as I followed your video on Google. As you mentioned this was the busiest air field in the world in 1945 with hundreds of B29s and over 50k personnel supporting them. The B29s were always overloaded and had many engine failures as they accelerated down runway A and the other three resulting in many llost airmen.
