A most favourite scene from the 1984 mini series "The Last Days of Pompeii". Lydon, the champion gladiator of Pompeii with the noble heart, confesses his love to the shy blind slave girl, Nydia.

Salvaged from my old VHS tape, and originally broadcast by the Greek National Television, thus the Greek subtitles underneath. If you cannot make out what they say in English, I'll post a transcript of the dialogue.

Lydon played by Duncan Regehr.
Nydia played by Linda Purl.

Best watched in high quality.

More credits in my clip with the opening titles of the series.

  • Loved this plotline. The miniseries was total cheese, but this storyline was wonderful. Someone being sought after as a thing, because of his beauty and strength, would love someone who can't see him, who has to value him only for himself. And for him, wanting not to be a slave, yet having the urge to buy her for himself -- interesting twist. Wasn't in the original book, either, which makes it a coup for the writers. Thanks for posting this clip! Wish I could buy this on dvd.

  • Nydia was previously forcefully snatched by her employer and given to the slave-market up for sale to the highest bidder. She would have ended up God knows with whom, had Glaucus not seen her and given the highest amount. Lydon arrived too late and with no money on him, so the only thing he could do was watch Glaucus carry Nydia away. That is what he means in this clip by "I couldn't even buy you", he wanted to save her then, but couldn't.

I'm glad you like this clip, thank you. :)

  • As for the series being cheesy, well, I think it's way better than other series. The story is nice, the performances from OK to solid, the music wonderful, all in all, it's a period series that for me has survived the years and got a place in my DVD collection. :)

  • Zorro as a gladiator in Ancient Rome...more specifically, in Pompeii, which was unfortunately destroyed in 79 A.D. when Mount Vesuvius erupted Shame this miniseries isn't available in Region 1. Thankfully, it's available to view on this site.

  • Duncan Regerd!!!

    He is the best!!!!

  • Clodio es la más hermosa!

  • @Gabriela1 --- I have to agree about the wonderful and sensitive performances of Linda Purl and Duncan Regehr as Nydia and Lydon. I was far more interested in THEIR love story than the rather pedestrian one of the two main leads! If this is on DVD, I would love to have it!

  • These two were so cute together.

If she could see this guy, she would know he looked as good as he sounded.

  • I remember watching this years ago and the part when I first saw Nydia it was like being hit by a truck.....God she was so beautiful.

  • no sabia que en libro ella no se salvara esque no lo lei pero igual esta pelicula es maravilloza intentaron hacer la misma pelicula pero con otros personajes pero no me gusto en cambio esta si

  • OMG,he was such a hunka-hunka!

  • me enamore de nidia cuando vi esta pelicula hay como me gusta era tan dulce mi amor nidia

  • Yes, I have this on video -- didn't know it was on dvd. I loved it too -- I love cheese. ;) It was lots of fun, but the Lydon/Nydia story was the one really worth watching. Very well put together, and original to the movie, not the book. I wish I could get a good copy.
