The narrative of Between Collapses starts from the presupposition to consider the mountain as an intercultural sacred symbol, to construct a profane image that subverts this starting principle. The aim of this profanation is to represent the human being exploratory logic, capable of, simultaneously, destroy and construct the foundations of its own evolution - the environment. The goal of this eco-art work is to alert human conscience to the vital necessity for a cultural and technological evolution in respect with a sustainable exploration of natural resources.
This diptych video shows two different moments sharing the same intention. The left side displays a sculpture / animation work, made of parallelepiped marble pieces, that represent the construction / deconstruction of a mountain. The right side of the diptych shows a video documenting the activity of a quarry from the Portuguese village of Vila Viçosa. If, with the sculpture / animation piece the perception of the construction/deconstruction state is doubtful, the understanding of the documentary clearly reveals us that the quarry exploration will persist until is limits.
