There will never be a better performance of this wonderful song. The King knocked it out of the park the first time and nobody else will ever come close.

  • Thanx 4 your comment. I play my crappy version on guitar using E, A and D. I don't think it sounds right.

  • theres ELVIS, then theres all others. th tru king

  • elvis was the best at anything when given the opportunity. he was a perfectionest. its an absolute shame he never got to do the movie roles he wanted or sing the songs he wanted to sing or shall i say commercially release as in singles. he performed them on stage but never got to keep them cuz everyone wanted the 50's elvis. there is a cd coming out of the ftd label i think you should give a try called nevada nights it has a concert where he performed nothing but his new stuff.

  • Really cool!

The Precision bass is substantially redesigned with a split-coil pickup, one-piece gold anodized aluminum pickguard, headstock shape based on the Stratocaster® guitar, bridge-mounted strings and individual threaded bridge saddles. One of the only rock ´n roll recordings of the decade to feature the pure original sound of the Precision Bass heard all by itself is Elvis Presley´s "You're So Square" (Bill Black on bass), as heard (but not seen) in '57 hit film Jailhouse Rock.

  • I read in an interview with DJ Fontana that Elvis played the bass on this song. IT's in Max Weinberg's book " The Big Beat". Go Elvis!!!!

  • elvis does this song justice, as people have correctly stated, in the film Jailhouse Rock... a different version than Buddy Holly's (my personal fave), but a great version nonetheless :)

  • Lieber and Stoller wrote the song for Elvis to sing in the movie "Jailhouse Rock" in 1957...Elvis does a great job on the song, and in the movie, singing it exactly the way it was written. Buddy Holly's version is fine, BUT, Buddy leaves out the second verse of the song!! So, his version never sounds right to me. I love the Elvis version with all the words in it.

  • @allenlevelle Yes you're right Bill black was ill on the day.

  • one of the first r and r songs with a Fender P-bass

  • That's Elvis on the bass.
