Black Friday is an accounting term. Some retailers depend on the four weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas to bring their 'books' out of the red (losing money) and into the black (turning a profit for the fiscal year). You're welcome. Don't applaud, just throw money.

in accounting the profit charts are red when there is no profit (aka: negative) & black when the number is positive or there is profit. Black friday is usually when companies charts turn from negative to positive or red ink to black ink. Hence black Friday after thanksgiving. Ex: If you look at the entire year and subtract all expenses, every sale after b-friday is profit whereas before, in the year, was just catching up from production expenses (aka: still in the negative/red).
