I've seen both versions of this musical, and seen it once live. and of the two movies i definitely prefer the 2000 version. I love the fact that Jesus is portrayed as HUMAN. Not necessarily as "the Christ," but as a man who could have been, or maybe is is Christ. The ambiguity is fantastic, and the very human emotion and confusion the actor portrays is a beautiful reminder of the humanity of Jesus, whether he was the Christ or otherwise.
"And the guy who plays Jesus has no acting abilities, nor does he actually look like the character."
I really like the guy playing Jesus here. And who cares if he doesn't look like Jesus, I saw a national tour of the musical that had Jesus played by a black man with dreads, it was really good.
I agree with the fact that he doesn't NEED to look like Jesus (and it's not like really anyone know 100% anyways) but he is really over acting horribly
