We visited Jacques Fresco and Roxanne Meadows, at the Venus Project in Venus, Florida, on 27 December 2008.

In this section Jacque is discussing the city.

Jacque Fresco is an industrial designer, author, lecturer, futurist, inventor, and a pioneer in the field of human factors engineering, based in Venus, Florida, USA. Fresco has worked as both designer and inventor in a wide range of fields spanning from biomedical innovations to totally integrated social systems. He believes his ideas would maximally benefit the greatest number of people and he states some of his ideas stem from his formative years during the Great Depression. In the mid-1970s, he started The Venus Project and the non-profit organization Future by Design together with Roxanne Meadows, that reflects the culmination of Frescos life work. To this day he writes and lectures extensively on subjects ranging from the holistic design of sustainable cities, energy efficiency, natural resource management and advanced automation, focusing on the benefits it will bring to society.

A major theme of Fresco's is the concept of a resource-based economy that replaces the need for the scarcity-oriented monetary economy we have now. Fresco argues that the world is rich in natural resources and energy and that — with modern technology and judicious efficiency — the needs of the global population can be met with abundance, while at the same time removing the current limitations of what is deemed possible due to notions of economic viability.

He gives this example to help explain the idea:

"At the beginning of World War II the U.S. had a mere 600 or so first-class fighting aircraft. We rapidly overcame this short supply by turning out more than 90,000 planes a year. The question at the start of World War II was: Do we have enough funds to produce the required implements of war? The answer was No, we did not have enough money, nor did we have enough gold; but we did have more than enough resources. It was the available resources that enabled the US to achieve the high production and efficiency required to win the war. Unfortunately this is only considered in times of war."

Fresco states that for this to work, all of the Earth's resources must be held as the common heritage of all people and not just a select few; and the practice of rationing resources through monetary methods is irrelevant and counter-productive to our survival.

  • he offers what we have in advance and thinks it is in the future? Only a dunce does not know almost all major apartment buildings have services in them, and have since WWII and longer. None of the basics needed for any city are shown...and what is this about transitional and people can't be forced to it directly shit? So pull a city to build a dummy city then again pull your city apart to build another.... 3 cities waste to get one city... Does he grasp the concept of WASTE?

  • You need to educate yourself about Jacque before you post. Your comments don't make sense, because you haven't read the material or watched his videos.

    please educate yourself -

  • I am NOT trying to be a killjoy, I am just trying to point out that people have MAJOR problems, big fights, legal battles, over something as simple as CONDO rules, HOA agreements, and any other planned community that doesn't let them fight, get drunk, and puke on the sidewalk.

This community ignores the Basic Human Values of trying to plan someone elses life, and that is impossible to do.

The same generation that listens to Fresco would be the people to pull it apart.

    .

  • so if you see an issue, why not log onto the forum and ask your questions... this is not about "planning" others lives.. it is MOSTLY about a "Resource Based Economy" - where the earth resources are held in common for all people. Corporations would not be able to "own" a countries water supply (if you are interested in what I am referring to -- then read John Perkins book - Confessions of an Economic Hitman".. )

  • @Peterwhitlock Be quiet.

  • Genius, jacque fresco has experienced more than any of u c*&nts ever will. he knows whats what in todays society. with the technology we have today it IS possible to have pretty much free everything. I dont get why people would rather work their whole lives so thay can pay the bills, barely support their children and have 1 holiday a year which lasts a week or 2 then they get old, and in a society like this, get shown F all respect when all they need to do is stand up and say yes to REAL FREEDOM

  • @Juefawn

    NONONO!

His 1930 future planet scrap junk is old dumb and obsolete as well as based in LIES and created LIES to exploit them to get donations. Scarcity has nothing to do with money and all to do with ober population...so his whole concept is based on LIES!

RBE is DUMB it was and still is NON MONETARY PLANET and RBE is same as money for money represent resources BUT JF does not grasp people are a resource! He think robots are!

so lies on lies even TVP TOUR ALL LIES in your face.

  • @Juefawn

How is social idealism powered by imaginary cities?

Jacques didn't even build his own dome house.

Did you think that's an accident?

Why not ask him why he charges for his little VENUS

project shows? Why doesn't he just exchange resources?

  • @Juefawn

Thanks for proving my point. Trying to program human minds with "human enhancement" would bring more lawsuits than anything else you try.

Personally, who appointed you the guardian of human enhancement?

The world has progressed largely by ignoring people like you.

  • @Merlin5x5 Those legal battles wouldn't be much of concern in a more socialized and educated "government." Take all that crap off tv, and replace it with human enhancement for the mind.

  • @Peterwhitlock I think his social idealism has a little more breadth, and desire for change then what your talking about here.

  • @Merlin5x5 Resources are free, you just trade them with a make believe representation.

  • Who's going to work? Machines?

HAAHA HOW DO WE GET THERE?

    Capitalism.

"When we hang capitalists, they will sell us the rope that we use."

Capitalism is the best of the worst, and only the worst are possible.
