Actually, it may just be the water. Water reacts to magnetism because of the structure of the water molecules. The hydrogen atoms share an electron with the oxygen molecule, and as such, has a net positive charge on one end, and a net negative charge on the other end of the molecule.
You can even see the effect if you keep some tap water running and hold a strong magnet close to the stream.
