@IsaReggie Prominences are loops/sheets of ejected gas & various radiation types that doesn't escape the Sun's magnetic field, while solar flares are ejected gas & various radiation types that are so powerful that they do escape the Sun's magnetic field. A major flare can release as much energy as the largest prominences, but in a matter of minutes or hours rather than days or weeks.
