This technology is pretty old, network booting has been around since the UNIX age.... if you can boot a whole OS from there a couple apps wouldn't be that much of an achievement.
-
Apple's next OS will be nicknamed SABERTOOTH?
-
Sounded harsh, reading through it, sorry :) Didn't intend it to come out like that.
Oh and the first one was a response to another comment, not to the video.

Oh and lastly, Flash isn't anything to do with SproutCore. It cannot possibly compete with it.
SproutCore is a JavaScript framework. There are many more, like Scriptaculous, Mootools, Prototype, Spry etc etc etc. They are generally all opensource, and make my life as a developer 10 times easier. It is a script that compliments HTML, like CSS.
It is waaayyy out of the league of Flash and Silverlight, it's just not it's own language, it's (if you like) a shortcut for existing features in JS.
-
Open Source (most licenses- some vary) generally means that the source (not the end product) has to be available to anybody.
By buying the company, Apple can then choose if it's open source or not, therefore able to choose if it wants to release the source. It does not (rare on specific licenses) require the business to release the product for free.
If you have any Qs, email my via my website.

Oh what the hell?? :D
Adobe doesn't have a product called Java (heard of Adobe Flash, or even Spry). You might be talking about *Sun Java* but Sun Java is a desktop/mobile application development environment.
Now, if you are referring to JavaScript, SproutCore cannot be competing with it, as it is based upon it. It's a whole language that can be embedded into HTML, like CSS and others.
Please do Google it before the inevitable response. :D

You have to think: Maybe Internet Apps are going to be on a whole different better revolutionairy level with apple and SproutCore. Maybe Internet apps are the future....
Imagine kids with crap-pc´s in Africa working on a High-Class - OS through the internet.

I think you've readed the Roughlydrafted+AppleInsiders article :P
So to resume
SproutCore is a superset for Javascript+HTML5+AJAX+CSS
here in the question of offline functionning, the savior is HTML5 combined with AJAX which include machanism that allow a SproutCore app to still function locally and retaining changes and things to be updated on the cloud/webserver-side, LOCALY waiting gently that the server show back online, exactly as your Mail.app does
(probably relying on Local Database)
