I use a line shooter, the "Big Shot" that Sherrill's sells. I've set my line as high as 100' , but that is the extreme. 75' is usually the max. I pull my rope up over a strong branch, then Friction hitch my way up to the canopy. Using the rope only method can be just about as fast when you get good at it. It does take more technique and can be very dangerous, especially if the line is not set properly.
Its a bitch but sometimes there is no other way up them.
I do spike pines when I have to but when I get to the decent branches - I throw them down
