This is unique film of great Impressionist painter Claude Monet (1840-1926) at work on a canvas en plein air.

I have also uploaded on my channel film footage of other great late C19 and early C20 French artists Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas and Auguste Rodin.

Much of this footage comes from a French documentary of 1952 - 'From Sacha Guitry's film Ceux de chez nous 1914-15'.

it's as though someone found footage of Michelangelo talking about working in the Sistine Chapel ceiling - joking of course but not really.

Monet's paintings have inspired me as much as a Lorrain, or say a Corot.

that's interesting - my first degree was in fine arts and it's been a life-long pursuit - interesting the notion of the ideal landscape - it has lots of art and intellectual possibilities i think
