US Navy Blue Angels
Fat Albert

2009 Blue Angels Homecoming Airshow
Naval Air Station Pensacola
Pensacola, Florida
Thursday November 12, 2009

IN THIS VIDEO, Fat Albert, the support C-130 Hercules, takes to the skies over NAS Pensacola as part of the practice show. Fat Albert had to circle multiple times before the parade pass because of a Coast Guard Dauphin that was in the immediate airspace for unknown reasons. Perhaps the takeoff profile might be what we will see from 'Bert in subsequent seasons?

You will also be treated to a performance with absolutely no narration or music. The Blues chose not to narrate their Thursday practice.

I apologize for the pink vertical bars in the video. Camera trouble reigned here once again, but it was the only time it showed up on Thursday.

If you are interested in purchasing DVDs of specific aircraft and/or of airshows, interested in anything and everything related to airshows (where the jet teams will show up, all airshow performers, airshow reports from airshows I have attended, previews of airshows I will be attending, etc.), a much more easier to navigate "version" of all of my videos, and/or everything there is related to aviation - including spotting guides to my favorite airports and military bases and aircraft factfiles, please take the time to check out Steve's Airshow World at http://www.stevesairshow.com .

  • I am a USAF Crew Chief on B-1s and got to ride in Fat Albert at the NAS Kingsville Air Show this past weekend. Its such a crazy ride and takes the C-130 to its performance envelope. at least 3 times throughout the short 10 minute profile you go to 0 grav and during the climbs you do 2.5Gs. Also the wheelie at the end is part of the demo to show their maximum braking effectiveness and the no JATO is because the navy does not need the JATO bottles anymore and ran out at the end of the 2008 season.

  • BOING!!
