I have an 84 wagon and its so freakin hillarious when you are slowly passing another car, inching past them and how people look over like wtf? Classic.

@classickc I've been asking myself this question a lot as those Volvo 240's are engineered to about 300k plus miles if regular easy maintenance is kept up. The short answer I fear is "there's no money in that". Where's the money in a car that can go 300k miles and still get almost 30mpg on the highway with all that room? What they like to do now is put a lot of toys in the car you don't need and make it look nice whilst they are meant to break down a lot. (America is bought off on toys)

That is SO my 240 Wagon...right down to the mustard Yellow colour. It has 414,000 miles on it ( I believe the 1980 had round headlights, they off set the Volvo emblem on the grill in 1983) but you're right, we old school 240 drivers don't give a fuck what you drive.

because they generate more revenue for a car company if they're worthless in 10 years.
though truth be told, I see more modern cars on the road that are 15+ years old than I do cars of the volvo era, even in the same timeframe I didnt see as many volvo 240's around after 15 years. Most people opted for autotragic transmissions, which are garbage and will "kill" the car. (unless you swap a superior manual in)

Why are cars not made this safe, attractive, solid, easy and convenient anymore> why are new cars weak garbage?
