I'd give Nicola a huge hug, she looks like she needs it.

Woolworths bag :( RIP Woolies!!

most of the actors in this film are northerners, so you should be impressed they bothered to put on any london accent at all, be it north or east. Steadman's a scouser, thewlis and horrocks are both from blackpool, broadbent's from lincolnshire. my kids have different accents because they are in different friendship groups, it's not a big issue.

Mike Leigh should be a politician..Because he gets it.

@MickeyLove01 I try not to pick movies apart-it always struck me as wankery.Jane Horrocks is more visually appealing than my underwear stains, though.Besides, mine are really one dimensional and very derivative.

Nicola is a totally unlikeable character. When she called herself a burden, all I could think was, Yea, yuh are. They'd be a happier family as a whole without her in their lives.

@henrycaville @plhokko Am from Hammersmith (which is West London ) and even I know that a North London accent is different to Cockney East London ( just as West and south Londoners are different to each other) simply put...NORTH Londoners EAST Londoners SOUTH Londoners and WEST Londoners, both in slang and accent are different from each other, to which ONLY those that ARE from LONDON or I guess work in London would know. And I guess this would apply to any big city in the rest of Britain.

This heart-wrenching scene in the middle of a bittersweet comedy is the most effective tear-jerker of all time. I cry every time I watch it and it is a major reason why this is my favourite movie ever.
