  • My family owned a 1977 604 v6 in the US for years. I have never driven another car that I enjoyed driving as much as that Peugeot. I would love to have another, but they are now pretty much impossible to find in the US.

  • You are definitely right Linus504. These are very hard to find and most often, you will see them neglected in a corner and if you don't ask to buy them, most owners just assume nobody wants them and let them rot...

A shame because they are such great cars!!!

  • I'm glad to see that there are still 604s running around North America! It's sad to think that most of them are gone nowadays. My dad owned not one but two of these gems when I was growing up (an '80 V6 SL auto and a daily driven '79 V6 SL 5spd until 1995!), and I still remember how comfy and roomy they were. In fact, I learned to drive in that '79 when I was 10. I still have a special place in my heart for those cars. Thanks for the vid and I wish you and your 604 many joyful miles to come!

  • @tomcatld127 French/European car suspension are different from the American models.

Especially true with cars before the 90's. Peugeot 's suspension were famous for their smoothess on bad roads, dirt roads, and alos to offer a good driving feeling, where Renault focus more on the car use (cheap Renault 4 are comfotable on dirst road, Renault 25 offer a smooth ride on normal road at high speed)

Not mention Citroën, with the hydropneumatic suspension... Or the floppy ones on cheaper models!

  • Nice to see there is some people caring about those not so old Peugeot...

Even in France, Peugeot 604 are hard to find, for the simple reason they were unsuccessful. People preferred to own a Peugeot 505, a Renault 25, or a Citroën CX. And, of course, Mercedes and Audi cars.

    Peugeot build less than 160 000 Peugeot 604 from 1975 to 1985.

    Compare with the 505 : 1 350 000 Peugeot 505 from 1979 to 1992

    Or with the Citroën CX : 1 160 000 CX from 1974 to 1991...

    Total failure.

  • Diesel is for trucks. Or boats.

  • may be this car owned to the french ambassy

  • @linus504 they used to have a peugeot dealership in north hollywood

  • YES!!!! I love this car !!!! Check out my 505 TD :D

  • @tomtom3245 You ever tried boadring a Renault Clio? The fact is that most french cars are small and I used to hate it because I wouldn't comfortably fit inside.

  • Smooth ride and not very precise steering, but nonetheless, an awesome ride!

  • You betcha it had a comfy ride, you mind isn't playing tricks on you it's just a fact: all French cars are comfortable.

Cars of the 80's were especially comfortable as a matter of fact, 505, 604, 604 coupé, Citroën CX....

  • My Dad had a 504 Diesel, what a great, comfy, smooth, albeit a bit ugly, car. It was so smooth and it seemed to take bumps surprisingly well. I almost wonder if it really was as good a ride as I remember. It had an excellently simple manual sunroof. It got 35 MPG, and loved to go 70, back in the double nickel days. Thanks for reminding me, we did get to drive a few 505's and 604's as well.
