Tapping holes freehand can lead to poor-quality "drunken threads" or even a broken tap. Using your drill press with a guide tool lets you easily make good threads every time.

This Harbor Freight automatic centerpunch can easily be converted back and forth between punch and guide in seconds.

  • you should buy a better set of taps than harbor freight. They are crap when it comes to cutting metal.

  • @alehax27 Agreed. They are good for cleaning up damaged threads or cutting threads in soft metals like aluminum or brass, but forget it on any kind of steel.

  • "Thank You!" very much for posting this video! I used it for the first time yesterday drilling scope mount holes in my 1936 Mosin Nagant rifle, AFTER first breaking the tap trying to do it by hand... This video made the whole process super easy! I don't care how long it takes, the end result is worth the whole effort.... "Thank You!" again! :)

  • @Salvo66us Glad it was useful to someone. :)

  • @alehax27 I like ground edge taps the best. The V-TapGuide by Big Gator Tools works well for hand tapping also. Nice video.

  • very nice experince. But it requires that you can place the piece in a stationary drillingmaskin.

  • good 100%

  • very time consuming...
