Two crapped out teenagers sit
on the edge of insanity
with a half empty bottle
of Evan Williams and talk
life, and hardships, and love
Daniel and Jennifer used to be
into the punk phase
but it wasn't quite cute anymore
and they've stripped themselves
of their patches
and Mohawk hairdos
they sit here
not literally on the edge of insanity
but on Danny's rusted in Mustang
Jenny with her legs crossed
and body language undistinguishable
to any normal inebriated male
Danny with a cigarette in his mouth
the two of them watching billows of smoke
travel to wherever it pleases
them too wishing for this same freedom
suburban dreams bind them there
and broken homes cut their feet
especially late at night
when they sneak home
after long journeys of searching for serendipity
finding synchronicity in each other
two peas left out of the pod
a pair of legos that didn't come in the box
they have each other
and individually have no one
Jenny jokingly talks about running away
together, like Thelma and Louise
and Danny scoffs and says only if he can be
Brad Pitt, but really he would go anywhere
Jenny asked him to
a willing incumbent to the protector role
but she doesn't need any saving
or safe keeping
that is why they are here, now
she doesn't know what she needs
just knows she needs to stay as intoxicated
as she possibly can and listen to music loud
enough to keep everything away
everything else is a jumbled mess
of colors and letters and anger and a void
all in a big swirl going on at hypersonic speed
A little flicker of light from flint and lighter sparks
Danny passes a pre-rolled joint
and lets out a different, freeing smoke
Jenny puffs at it and holds until she feels
that gentle tingle, the hug from mary jane
talking stops and evolves to passing
and giggling to roaring laughter
to silence, to staring, to anticipation
to distraction
then back to laughter, back to silence
neither of them changing the subject
nature not interrupting
the universe holding its breath
the silence not building
or mounting, just, silence
they look into each other's opals
long enough to see nothing
it isnt just them being jaded teens
they'd just reached enlightenment
and were scared of what they saw
human connection has no place
in the rational human being
Danny tosses the bottle of Evan
off the side of the road
hops in the driver's seat
as Jenny buckles her seatbelt
their wounded satellites tender
winding down half cavalier
not a significant word spoken
till he pulled the emergency break
upon arrival of Jenny's house
he said, ill miss you
and she reciprocated the gesture
with a hug and almost a kiss
on the cheek
Danny put down the emergency break
and his Mustang gargled off into the distance

Colin! Myyyyyy nigga, thank you so much for your ever-present input. I was really inspired by all of the videos you've posted and just wanted to throw something out there. Tried to make it all fit, i've got to admit though, i don't really have a knack for recording like you do. Did my bestest, and yeah i know what you mean about the distortion and stuff. I found myself a little insecure in my words at times.

  • I love this ;)

  • I can really feel the emotion in this piece. I really feel the pacing and the pauses too. There's a great sense of emotion in those paused hooks that grabs ones feelings. And the instrumental fits well. I just really like the written medium and this is felt so much more with the author's voice matched with the words. The lofi style adds character and a rustic feel. One thing, just a small note if I may, is part of it had a little too much distorted/squeal but only for a short period of time.
