FM Interference Techno

While driving along I-84 in northern central Oregon, artist and internet personality extraordinaire Chris Yates listened to bizarre techno-like interference or static on 89.1 FM, which is usually a NPR station based in Walla Walla, WA, for 90 minutes. This is the synopsis. Any explanations are gladly accepted.

Cross modulation between two stations. Should have varied the freq by 10kz up or down to hear the other station bleeding through. Interesting it was in a range on 120 km of driving, Tv transmitter could also have played a part of the cause & Weather condition. ie Propagation

I think we did this in Physics... its called destructive/constructive interference. The bits of wave that match boost the signal, while the bits that oppose cancel each other out...
