In January of 2009, the Conservation Council of New Brunswick organized a speaking tour with energy efficient building expert, Rob Dumont.

Dumont is well-known for his work on several innovative demonstration projects including the Factor 9 House in Regina and the Riverdale Net Zero Home in Edmonton. In this presentation, he outlines the key features that make the Factor 9 House nine times more efficient than a standard home built in the 1970s, including high insulation levels, and solar heating. The Factor 9 House is effectively 'net zero ready'. That is to say that the addition of photovoltaic solar panels would allow the house to generate as much energy as it requires!
