UTD Automatic Doors Suck

I don't use the automatic doors because I can open the normal doors myself. The automatic doors are intended for people with disabilities, so I'd rather not tie it up if someone with a disability does happen to need it. Furthermore, they're still slow. :P

i do have a problem with all those parking spaces up front at walmart, when half are even used, and soely use for the handicap and elderly.

they already have the door controls equipted with push and go circuits, where they push on the door, and it will automatically open for them. its just a matter of force that they have to apply for it to work, you cant have the doors to sensitive, otherwise the winds will have a field day! they should have it setup too that a wall button sets it in handicap mode, then a push plate on the door will open normally. that is very interesting though, about people avoiding it! lol
Haha, I do that too!
I hate that stupid door on the right. (BTW obviously, I go to UTD.) I've actually observed this behavior in myself, focusing on the left door. It's just that you've provided more conclusive proof that the right automatic door sucks ass.

haha, glad that you like the video and that I'm not alone. I have actually been meaning to post a follow-up video for it but need to get better footage.

just so you know, the door opens slow for handicap people, henced the name for "handicap doors". It would be in violation if they did not have an handicap accessible door. They also have to follow the ansi standards, how fast the door can travel, by ft/seconds. :)

This was actually a video to accompany a blog entry I wrote. I of course don't expect you to know that. In the entry, I acknowledge that I fully understand the reason the doors open slowly and have absolutely nothing against handicapped people. It was more of a silly piece than a deep philosophical rant. I had a friend who asked to see people avoiding the door. At the same time, I don't think it would be too hard to engineer something where the door functions normally with physical force.

Its entirely possible and entirely a waste of money. There's definitely no engineering feat stopping us from making the door behave normally and as a handicap door, but it would cost A LOT of money to modify every door that way and there would be no quantifiable gain.
Basically, an issue of picking ones battles. Maybe if you give UTD a million dollar donation you could make it happen ;-)

Check out the response video to this one. These doors work like the ones in Green and other buildings do now :)
