Ham Radio FAQ:
http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24082

This is a quick compressed overview of several radio communication options people might be faced with. I try to cover the very basic pros/cons of each, but I hope to do more reviews of actual equipment in the future. Here are some good links to get people started on the technologies:

  • can we link gmrs frequency with normal amature radio?

if anyone know please let me know

    thanks for answer

  • @fatnapster What exactly do you mean? You want to use GMRS with an amature radio hardware? With modification that's possible, but not really legal. Or you want to actually link a GMRS frequency with one in an amature band? Also possible, definitely not legal.

  • Does extending the antenna makes a larger range in CB radios??

  • @halfmumi Yes. Full wavelength antenna for CB would be ideal but that's like almost 40 foot long. Most people trying to max mobile CB use 1/4 length at about 10 feet long. That's the common long whip antenna you see. The biggest win here is a nice solid ground plane and something outside of any structure (house/car/etc).

  • Do you have to have a license to transmit and receive a CB radio signal? Does the FCC require that? Because I dont think that truckers (big rig truck drivers) need an individual license or the comany needs it to have those types of radios. my main question is do you need a license to own and operate a CB radio?

  • @kennymcpooh No, no license is required for citizen's band radio in the US. Outside of the US I have no idea.

  • The vehicle noise on CB is usually because it is AM. FM is more resistant to interference like that.

  • Very well done! look at the cobra car cb. Its the best of both words for cb. very clean small and well built CB. Any way, thank you! Have you seen any good headset for the Garmin 120.

  • Excellent presentation! Thank you so much.

  • great video, very knowledgeable. hope to see more.

  • I have Solo SM2700A 27MHZ,what do you think about the distance of it??
