1. John Key and Air New Zealand will spend NZ$5 million to try to lure
Australian tourists to New Zealand. Good luck. Each state spends that
each and more to tempt visitors across state border lines. I'm in two
minds about this stuff. There are some 'Fonterra-like' advantages to
combining travel promotion for lots of small businesses, but I wonder
how successful they. 100% pure is now embarassing, because we're not.
Ever tried to swim in Lake Rotorua?.

2. The company behind the famous HamiltonJet boat maker has made 28
workers redundant, but there's an ugly twist to this one. Unions are
saying HamiltonJet made 28 Kiwis redundant while keeping on 24 migrant
contract workers. The union is now calling on the government to
tighten borders and calling on companies to fire migrants before Kiwis
as the recession bites. Down this way madness lies. It's xenophobic
and dangerous. We should actually be encouraging more migrants.

3. You know how I said things would get ugly in America because of
these latest bonuses for AIG, well here we go. Iowa Sen. Charles
Grassley suggested on Monday that AIG executives should take a
Japanese approach toward accepting responsibility for the collapse of
the insurance giant by resigning or killing themselves.

4. The Seattle Post Intelligencer, the oldest business in Seattle at
146 years old, became the biggest daily newspaper to shut its doors
and go web-only today. It has about 120,000 subscribers, about the
same as the NZ Herald, although the Seattle paper made losses while
the NZHerald makes big losses. However Seattle will still have one
daily newspaper The Seattle Times. NZ went through this winnowing down
to single paper towns a long time ago. It will take decades more for
them to close, although I'm doing everything I can to make it as quick
as possible.

What is it? Something like 75% of the waterways in Canterbury and Waikato are unsafe for "contact recreation" Sounds Pure....

  • Or we could just line them up and shoot em! I'm flexible!
