I didn't know Conan O' Brien liked Synthesizers.

@MARANTZamp You'r wrong. Its a synthesizer. You can modify all sound. in it. I have one and have thousend sound for it in sysex format.

Ah the dark ages of synthesizers. Then the Roland JD-800 came in 1991 and things started to look up again. In 1994 Nord released the Nordlead and things haven't been the same since.

Does anyone know the sound preset to the What Is Love song by Haddaway? Not the melody, but the sound preset that was used in the song? I can't find it as I'm scrolling through the presets on my keyboard.

i want a M1!!!!
great demo,
the people going around there bothering about synth, this is a Sample.based Synth, it's not a FM synth, but it's a Synth!!

Is the m1 still one of the best classic synths? I hear from fourms that it was a beast of a synth and is phat on the low end.
This comment has received too many negative votes show
It's a really sad excuse for synth or "work station". It has like 10 buttons, and no knobs. The mikrokorg has 15 buttons and 9 knobs, which is superior

@bilbring - You consider the number of knobs and buttons a workstation has to be its primary criteria?
What about polyphony, multitimbral ability, or range of both realistic and synthetic sounds?

it's a classic, but it's not a synth at all, it's a ROMpler

@MARANTZamp -
It's a synthesizer - it just uses sample-based synthesis rather than analog subtractive. It's not like the samples are static; they are modified by dozens of parameters.

could have fooled me...
Do you think anyone used an m1 as a programmable synth?
This is a synth like my jv-1080 is a synth.
they are all ROMPLERS at the end of the day....

I consider the JV-1080 a synth. Do you only use synthesizers like the JV-1080 as a preset playback box? In that case, it's just a sample bank for you.
But the JV-1080 can do really original complex and evolving sounds thanks to its multiple filter types, ring modulation, and generous LFOs and Envelopes. I've created sounds on a sample+synthesis based synthesizer that I could never do on an analog subtractive synth.
Of course, for analog sounds, an analog synth sounds best.
