On April 11, 2010, Congressman Bill Delahunt hosted a forum on Afghanistan policy, honoring a commitment he made to Cape Codders for Peace and Justice following a sit-in in his office (although his office had tried to dishonor it by uninviting the two anti-war speakers the day before). David Swanson and Chris Hellman spoke against funding an escalation in Afghanistan. Thomas Barfield and Joe Wipple were the pro-war speakers, but Wipple largely opposed the war, too. Congressman Bill Delahunt said just before the event that he craves the attention that comes from not announcing how you will vote, as if the attention he gets matters more than the lives he funds the taking of. Rep. Delahunt did not announce his decision on spending another $33 billion, but his comments at the forum were largely anti-war and when he expressed concern about Karzai, all four panelists told him the occupation was not going to work. Delahunt has said he wants to obey the president, but at this event said he agreed with Swanson that war powers belong in Congress. Ask Rep. Delahunt to vote No on $33 billion to escalate the war (202) 225-3111.
