The Louisville Leopard Percussionists perform Chick Corea's "Spain" and Benny Goodman's "Sing Sing Sing" at the International Association of Jazz Educators' concert in January 2006, opening for Chick Corea, Eddie Gomez & Jack DeJohnette.

This handheld camcorder footage was shot by a generous Leopard parent while HBO was on stage shooting their footage for the documentary "Leopards Take Manhattan" which aired January 2008.

The Louisville Leopard Percussionists are a performing ensemble of approximately 45 student musicians, ages 7-11, living in and around Louisville, Kentucky. Each student learns and acquires proficiency on several instruments, such as marimbas, xylophone, vibraphone, drum set, timbales, congas, bongos and piano.

  • i wonder if they have a CD

  • @ghd1976 - Yes, they have several for sale at their website product page (hit the "Shop" link from their homepage).

  • Louis Prima wrote "Sing, Sing, Sing"! Benny Goodman just substituted a clarinet solo for the trumpet.

  • @HildebrandJ - [T]he most famous tune associated with Goodman ... written by Louis Prima [with] vocals as the title suggests...However, the ... band kept changing it in performances, adding new passages ... to the point where it bore little resemblance to the original. -AllAboutJazz

  • I saw them on HBO and they are an amazing group of young people. The way they were taught was astounding. The teacher would pick out an instrument such as the part played by a trumpet, saxaphone, trumbone and then teach one student that part and then that student would show others that part. The best thing of all is that they were taught without sheet music. All of this was done from practice and more practice.

  • My friends in choral ensamble just sang Sing Sing Sing 39 minutes ago.

  • @shrlockadlib,me too.

  • @Damakeupqueens, me too.

  • I love this people. I saw the sho oh HBO Family.

  • love love love this!! seriously impressed.

  • I'm very impressed - not only by their great skill, and feeling for the music, but also by their poise. They seem not to be distracted by the cameramen moving all around them while they play. Incredible!

  • I really want to join this group!!
