Matlak and Waguespack headed for runoff election
32nd Ward challenger confident he can pick up Zaryczny's votes

The days of machine politics are over in the 32nd Ward, according to runoff aldermanic candidate Scott Waguespack, who overcame a three-way race on Election Day to face Aldermen Ted Matlak in the April 17 runoff election.
Early poll numbers showed Matlak taking 2,832 votes (46.8 percent), Waguespack taking 2,342 votes (38.7 percent) and Ukrainian Village challenger Catherine Zaryczny winning 852 votes (14 percent).
"We have to go out now for the next six weeks and track down every silver bullet we can find to put into the machine," Waguespack told about 100 supporters at his campaign headquarters in Lakeview. "When I'm alderman, we're not going to have the fraud, the waste and the lack of oversight to let these guys have a machine that rips you off."
Matlak and Zaryczny could not be reached at press time.
