Our TO AND FRO ROCKING STRIDE ACTION was never understood. It is something we learned subconsciously as a baby. We first learned to balance ourselves for standing in place by centering our upper body over our feet. We then learned to walk and run by shifting our weight off a vertical balance. We hopped to reverse the downward pull of gravity to a continuous forward pull by gravity. We land out front (slowdown), and take off behind (speedup) during an even stride. The total forward power is all done with GRAVITY AS THE ONLY EXERTED FORWARD FORCE. Your muscles supply the reactive forces only. The minimal jump reverses the downward pull of gravity and makes it into a forward pull by gravity. The return of the foot needs to be kept as low and fast as needed to exchange the feet in time to keep up with the speed of the body. So, stop trying to do the coaches’ tension-forces ways that work against the rocking stride movement. You need to be a Rockstar to be a RUNNING STAR. I looked at our running movement and understood. The scientists looked at the same movement incessantly and still don’t understand. Primarily I understood that the rocking action we run with is an off center-balance rock. We can’t stand still standing off balance so we must be falling forward to run. We can only move forward to walk, run and sprint with gravity pulling us. There are three balance changes we make to walk, run and sprint. First: We need to go from a standstill to reach our level pace by increasing speed with each step. We do this by landing for a few steps behind our upper body’s center of balance, and taking off the ground farther back. Second: To run at an even pace we land slightly ahead of our upper body’s center of balance and take off the ground a larger distance behind. The larger distance behind makes the standing time off balance for gravity to keep us walking or running. Third: To slow down and stop we need to land far out front so gravity pulls us back. We already do these balance changes subconsciously or we wouldn’t be walking or running. You don’t know how to do them with mixing in bad technique. Coaches teach the following bad techniques: Push back harder at the ground to run faster. It is impossible to do. You would have to flex the leg at the same time it is extending to toss you up. Extending the leg pulls the lower leg forward while you roll forward on the foot. Push harder down into the ground to run faster. Doing that would make you jump too high and over stride. Air time is slowdown time at any height. Keep the jump as low as possible. Push at one angle head to toe. It is impossible to do, because the leg changes angles too fast. It would take a hundred angles to jump. Land on the toe. Toe landing is murder on the calf muscles for distance running because of the leverage against the foot at a right angle to the leg. It is necessary for sprinting short distances because rolling on the foot slows the time you need to get off the ground at a sprint speed. Landing on the toes does not change your angle for speed. You can hop in place while landing on your toes as well as run slowly that way. You can’t do anything with a pose position of a straight line head to toe, vertical or at a slant. The legs rotate too fast for a lift or a push. Landing on the heels does not make you reach out far. You can do it hopping in place. The best place to land is flat footed, except for a sprint. Get the right combination of stride length and stride frequency. It is both impossible to measure and it doesn’t get you to move forward. You need to do the falling technique to run. Tilt the upper body forward to add speed. Tilting the upper body forward has absolutely no effect on changing your speed except for the first step in a sprint to shift the body ahead. The upper body realigns itself by shifting the bottom behind the foot so the center of balance doesn’t shift. You can see this when you stand in place with a tilted upper body. Lift the knee high with foot over opposite knee then drive the foot down hard. The lift should be kept as low as possible to exchange the feet faster. The focus should be on bringing the foot forward fast, not on the knee lifting high. Driving the foot down hard makes a hard impact. You can bring the knee and foot high and drive down while hopping in place. That action does not move you forward at all. Drop your feet directly under your body. The only way you can do that is by hopping in place, because you stay centered over your feet.
There isn’t another way to run than the one we all learned subconsciously by trial and error as a baby. We first balanced ourselves with our weight centered over our feet to stand in place. We then learned to shift our weight ahead of our feet to walk and run. We all already run with gravity but when you got older you added in impurities. I learned to get rid of the bad parts and use only the pure power.

  • Everyone runs hits and throws correctly in all sports but not good enough. They slow their motion with the wrong muscles while using the right muscles. They also cannot use the right muscles to get all their power out of them. That is why there are so many writers and coaches trying to correct athletes. Their advice makes athletes worse than they do on their own.

  • Great videos. Thank you.

  • Dr. Jack Nirenstein, can you comment please, if into this Asafa Powel slow motion sprint , is he running, inconsciently, according to your technic, or if not, what is he doing wrong exactly, that you can correct it, so for he could run even faster ?
