Sleep deprivation is rapidly becoming a fact of life. But with economists estimating that sleep disorders cost the economy over $9 bn a year, insomnia is no trivial matter. Then there's the human cost. Drowsiness is a factor in over 16% of fatal road accidents and 9% of work accidents. It's been linked to everything from obesity and heart disease to depression and diabetes. 'Eyes Wide Open' reports on the cost to society when we no longer value sleep.

  • it ussually takes me 2 hours to sleep

when im really tired i dont sleep at all

  • Sleep deprivation is no joke for sure. If people need an alarm clock to wake up, they surely are not getting adequate sleep. I think modern work schedules take too much of people's lives, especially if they have to go home after and take care of their homes, families, etc. Modern day living puts sleeping on the back burner which is horrifying and unacceptable. With all the lightning fast computer technology these days it seems that work schedules should be shortened rather than lengthened. :-|

  • Just to add sth. I said I have no time to sleep. Well I used to need perfect sleeping conditions (complete darkness, no what so ever sounds, comfortable bed) in order to sleep, but I've been so tired lately I can fall asleep in any position, leaning to a wall, too, and people can talk, neon lights can shine in my face, people can bass up the music whatever... And it takes me as much as 3min to fall asleep (not relevant to the video I know :P) ... this F* SCARES ME!

  • i love to sleep

  • i usualy get 4-3 hours of sleep and im in school and sometimes sleep during classes and im 12 years old

  • This video is so true. Are mordern lifes don't allow us to sleep properly! no wonder students gets low grades, no wonder some of the people use drugs. They - can"t - get - sleep!

  • I sleep 4-5h a day because I can't afford more. (school&studying)

  • i take clonodine :D

  • I sleep much better than I used to. It used to take me 60 to 180 minutes to get to sleep at bed time on an average night but now it takes me 15 to 120 minutes. Still not great but much better and I feel much better every day.

  • hahahaha i love the ending of this

  • This documentary used to be on a site called TeachersTV which has recently closed down - would anyone be able to redirect me to the same video where we DON'T have to pay for it? (as on Teachers TV it was free to view)

    Thankyou!

  • @anoldalarmclock know the feeling...
